The Cleveland Clinic was 90 miles away from our home in Lexington, Ohio. I couldn\u2019t make the drive home with a bandaged eye, and my wife, Peggy, wasn\u2019t used to driving in big-city traffic. \u201cWhat about Dick?\u201d Peggy had suggested. \u201cHe\u2019s always driving everywhere to football games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was true\u2014Dick was a huge football fan, driving hours just to see his favorite teams. He knew everything about the up-and-coming college stars. When <a href=\"https:\/\/guideposts.org\/articles\/positive-living\/entertainment\/sports\/does-god-really-care-about-pro-football\/\">the NFL Draft<\/a> arrived, he loved finding out the college players signed by our beloved Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n<p>Dick agreed to help us out, of course. Now, as I waited for my surgery, I racked my brain, trying to think of a way to say thanks. He\u2019d dragged himself out of bed at sunrise only to sit in the hospital waiting room all day. Not even a <em>Sports Illustrated<\/em> on the magazine table. Dick sighed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to take a walk around,\u201d he said, getting up from his chair. Now I felt really uneasy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll get him a gift certificate or something later,\u201d Peggy said when I told her my concern. But that didn\u2019t seem right. <em>What can I do?<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/guideposts.org\/articles\/prayer\/true-stories-of-answered-prayer\/you-can-worry-or-you-can-pray\/\">I prayed.<\/a> A half hour passed with no sign of Dick. \u201cI wonder if he got lost in this place,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>Just then, Dick strode down the hall, a huge smile on his face. \u201cI want to thank you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank me?<\/em> I wondered. \u201cFor what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou won\u2019t believe who I met in the elevator,\u201d he said. \u201cBrady Quinn, last year\u2019s quarterback for Notre Dame. He\u2019s here getting his team physical. He was just drafted by the Browns in the first round. I shook his hand and welcomed him to Cleveland!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/guideposts.org\/articles\/positive-living\/entertainment\/music\/amy-grant-prayer-brought-me-through-heart-surgery\/\">surgery went without a hitch<\/a>. And I no longer worried about how to thank Dick.
