Learn MoreBut by the grace of God, I am what I am…—1 CORINTHIANS 15:10 (NIV)
I dropped the laundry basket and rushed toward our dog, Beethoven, who was relieving himself by the front door. He darted past me and ran down the hall, peeing as he went. I finally caught him and wrangled him outside.
After mopping our entryway and hallway—tasks not on my to-do list—I longed for a much-needed cup of coffee. I started the Keurig, pulled down my favorite mug, and grabbed the creamer from the fridge. The container was empty.
I literally growled as I snatched my keys and headed to the store. When I returned home, I thought about our daughter, Danielle, who’d recently completed her fourth chemo infusion, the first without me being there with her. My main focus for the last few months had been her care. I texted her while I waited on my coffee. Remember to give yourself grace and celebrate small victories. This was the same advice I’d given her with each infusion.
On a day when I thought I could get caught up on other responsibilities, I was angry that unexpected challenges continued to bombard me. Could I learn to take my own advice? Everything on my list didn’t get done. That’s where grace abounds. And small victories? I did enjoy a cup of coffee with my favorite creamer.
Lord, thank you for small victories in everyday situations. Help me to embrace the grace you offer.
