Shine His Light on Dark Thoughts

When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, “It would be better for me to die than to live.”—Jonah 4:8 (NIV)
Jonah was angry and tired, wanting to die—absorbed in his own feelings when God gave him a lesson of compassion and taught him the value of caring for others. God had patience and saved Jonah from himself, not once but twice. God’s love for us is boundless.
Lord, when I am too focused on myself to see You and Your blessings, lead me to trust that You are a gracious God.

Worry takes a tremendous amount of energy and often robs us of sleep and joy. Pray for the strength to follow the Lord’s instruction and let go of your fears. Take His words to heart—“Fear not!”—and feel a spark of excitement grow into joy.
