My husband, Wayne, and I have always enjoyed road trips. On a recent one, we’d stopped for gas in one of those stations that has a small grocery attached, along with a fast-food franchise. We took the opportunity to eat lunch. While we were enjoying our meal, I noticed a young man gazing at the overhead menu. I heard him sigh and turn away. 

I wondered if he was hungry and couldn’t afford the meal. After we finished eating, I stepped into the grocery area to pick up a couple of bottles of water for our trip. I saw the same young man again. He was wandering down the aisle, looking at the food items, checking the prices, and then returning them as if they were more than he could afford. 

I finished our purchase and returned to the car, while Wayne finished up in the restroom. As I sat in the vehicle, I felt the Lord speak in my heart, telling me to give the young man some money. I didn’t feel I could go up to a stranger and hand him money. It would be insulting. Then I felt a nudge to tell the young man I found this twenty-dollar bill on the ground and that it must be his. I wrestled with this, and before I knew it, Wayne returned and started the car. Ever since that day, I’ve regretted leaving without following God’s lead. I missed a blessing, and I have a new determination to listen when the Lord speaks and act promptly.
