Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.—Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)

It’s moving day for my daughter. She had made arrangements with a company that provides a truck and movers. Last night, a representative called her to say that due to labor issues, they couldn’t do the job. With some scrambling, she arranged to hire the truck and driver while we recruited volunteers to do the heavy lifting. The moral of the story is that people aren’t always dependable.

The stress of this move showed me the sharp contrast between human promises and the promises of Jesus. When He said He would die and rise again, He did. When He said He will never forsake us, He remains faithful. When He told us that He is going to prepare a place for us, we can count on His pledge.

I’m a bit of an idealist, so when life doesn’t go along on a smooth and sunny path, I can feel let down. But then I remember that I’m also one of those humans who isn’t always faithful. I, too, have let others down and realize there is no need to fume about those who are undependable. Instead, I can take comfort in the reminder that there is One I can always fully count on.

Jesus knows that fallen men and women can be untrustworthy (John 2:24). But when it comes time for us to make the move to heaven, we don’t have to rely on a local moving company. Jesus will keep His promise and welcome us into His kingdom.

Faith Step: Make a list of the promises that Jesus has fulfilled in your life. Thank Him for being faithful.
