Today what inspires me is the sound of the rain falling here in Bluefields, Nicaragua, followed by a beautiful blue sky and white fluffy clouds. I hear the sound of the church daycare downstairs, with nursery rhymes in Spanish. I feel blessed to be here to do God’s work!

I’m inspired by the parents—like my son—raising handicapped children. His goal is to help our granddaughter reach her highest potential, and he works with her every day and rejoices when she takes even a baby step forward.

Remembering that God is in control. When the doctors told my wife and me that I had a cancerous tumor on my kidney, we were in a state of shock. As we fretted about it, I had an impulse that God would take care of it. A calm feeling covered me, and I haven’t worried about it since that day—well, on occasion I have been reminded of who is really in control of my cancer.

I am only a few pages away from finishing Edward Grinnan’s The Promise of Hope and have been so inspired by all the stories he shares, especially his own. I find it so honest and refreshing to read about all the turmoil in his life and how God brought him through to the other side!

My dad. He has Stage IV lung cancer and is now on hospice care, but he still works in his garden every morning and has been taking care of things around the house so my mom will have less to worry about when he’s gone. He has always been a selfless Christian man, and his faith has not waivered a bit since his diagnosis.

Laura Conklin
My Twelve-Step Program is inspiring me this week. I am studying more literature and doing things for myself to grow spiritually, and I’m turning all the stress over to my Higher Power.

Cindy Sears
My 74-year-old dad has had a neurological problem for the past 25 years, and though he walks with great difficulty, he still hunts and fishes when he is able. He takes care of my mom, who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s. He has faith in God, and he gave his children and grandchildren a strong belief in the power of prayer and showed us the beauty of a loving marriage.
