The Lord’s Discipline

God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. (Hebrews 12:6-10, NLT)

The show began as the boy goat jumped up on the wooden bench. Face-to-face with his momma, they rammed heads.

I was drawn to the mother goat and her male kid when I was visiting Antler Hill Farm on the Biltmore Estate near Ashville, NC. He repeatedly, head-butted his mother, jousting at her. Even though his frame was much smaller, I think at times he was too aggressive. She appeared to be pregnant, and he used his head to push at her side.

He enjoyed jumping on the wooden bench, taking a few steps and charging her while she stood at the other end. Time and time again this scene played out. There were moments she cuddled him, and they nuzzled noses. But, there were times she reared back on her hind legs like a bucking horse and pounded down on the ground in front of him. She let him know who was in charge.

The Lord cares for us and loves us but at times has to discipline us when we go astray. His discipline is always good. Aren’t you glad?

Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever? For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. (Hebrews 12:6-10, NLT)
