For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7a)
Recently I watched a “Minute with Maxwell” video that featured transition as the word of the day. In it, John Maxwell says if a transition is leading you to something there is great anticipation rather than a transition from something you are trying to escape.
I was greatly encouraged by his thought process. I like the idea of going to something, because it means that you can look forward to what is ahead while counting the blessings of where you are now.
We have lived in our current home for the past 16 years. This was my dream house. My youngest daughter, however, is going into her third year of college now, and while we love where we are and thank God for it, the time has come to downsize.
I have been praying for a buyer to come along and make us an offer, but at the same time I have been dreading all of the energy required to look for something new. I have to admit that most of my thoughts have been on what I am leaving rather than what I am going to. I can see the wisdom in Maxwell’s words because I feel a lot more optimistic when I think about what I am going to, even though it is still unknown.
Often transitions are hard because we become attached to where we are and what we have, and these things carry sentimental for us. I will move forward with a new attitude and think of my transition from one house to another as going to something.
Prayer Point: It is amazing what a change of attitude can do. Pray and ask God if there is an upcoming transition that you could think about in a different manner.
A change in attitude can oftentimes hold the key to an uplifted spirit.
God bless you!
