When Mary observes a young woman pretending to read a book in Mary’s Mystery Bookshop as though she is waiting for someone, Mary discovers that the young woman—named Katie— suffers from amnesia and doesn’t recall anything that happened prior to that day. Katie’s only clue regarding past events is a note telling her to arrive at Mary’s bookshop at 1:12 PM. With a recent mugging in town, in addition to a suspicious man following Katie around town, Mary cannot help but think that these events are all related in some way. Can she help Katie resolve her past with the present, or are some memories better left forgotten?
When Anne develops a roll of film found in her great-aunt Edie’s old camera, she is shocked to find a picture of her father’s cousin, Carl, at the bicentennial celebration for American independence in 1976. Carl was reportedly killed while fighting in the Vietnam War in 1970, so how is any of this possible? After going through more of Aunt Edie’s belongings, Anne decides to host an exhibition of her relative’s photography. Will Anne’s research put her closer to the truth behind Carl’s story, and what else will she learn about her family history?
Mary has become the victim of identity theft! Her efforts to contractually adjust the mortgage of the bookshop are denied because of an incredibly excessive balance on a new credit card that she doesn’t recall ever applying for. Who would have access to Mary’s personal information, and more importantly, who would want to aim an attack squarely at Mary in Ivy Bay? As Mary investigates the matter further, she discoverers the list of possible suspects is longer than she initially realized. Could it be any of the potential culprits, or is it someone that she doesn’t even suspect?
A mysterious letter has arrived at the library, containing a counterfeit newspaper article which frames Anne and her friends for a crime that occurred the very night of their high school homecoming! As if the letter was not sufficiently worrying, the writer threatens to reveal information that could put Anne’s reputation—and job—at risk! Who is the blackmailer, and what does he or she want from Anne and her friends? Simultaneously, Anne must care for her children, Ben and Liddie, who are suffering from the effects of poison ivy. Will compassion and reason trump deceit and threats?

However, even though Sarah saw Ruby talking to Ernie Maplethorpe, he denies that he ever saw her in the first place. Has Ruby truly returned to Maple Hill, and if so, why is she trying to hide?
