I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career….I have been entrusted to take the game-winning shot and I missed. I have failed over and over again in my life. And that’s precisely why I succeed.

The difference between a winner and a loser is, many times, a matter of inches. If you think you can do it, most of the time you’ll do it.

Losing’s a great motivator.

Nobody wanted me. Scouts told me to go to school, to forget baseball. Coaches said, ‘You’re never going to make it.’ I appreciated their honesty, because I think when someone tells you something you may not like, you have to use that as fuel for motivation.

Always remember that dead last is better than did not finish, which is way better than did not start.

You never really lose until you quit trying.

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.

I’ve never worked a day in my life. Don’t get me wrong. I work at track. If you love what you do, it’s not work.
