The Good Life

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.—Psalm 118:24 (ESV)

Sometimes we concentrate so hard on making a living that we forget to live. Don’t become so absorbed with making ends meet and the problems of life that you miss its possibilities.

Lord, help me to separate the wheat of life from the chaff.

When Uncertainties Arise

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.—Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

When difficulties arise, Christ can help you. He can be a steady foundation through changing situations and emotional ups and downs. If you are feeling awash in a sea of uncertainty and self-doubt, look to Him for help.

Steady me, Lord, when I waver and take my eyes off You.

How to Handle Heartbreak

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.—Psalm 147:3 (NIV)

Elisabeth Elliot wrote , “Repeatedly throughout our lives we encounter the roadblock of suffering. What do we do with it? Our answer will determine what we can say to another who needs comfort.” No one knows all of the answers or why things happen, but we can choose to trust God in every situation and always look for the good.

Lord, help me through times of sorrow and please reassure that my struggles are preparing me for the future.

Freedom from Your Past

On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”—Matthew 9:12–13 (NIV)

Is something from your past bothering you? Is something that you did or didn’t do haunting your thoughts? Pray, believe in Jesus’ forgiveness, and close the door on all those things. Jesus is more than capable of setting you free from your past.

Heavenly Father, I am worthy of being Your child. You are ready to heal me and help me to let go of yesterday so I can be my best today.

Use Your Gifts

For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance.—Matthew 25:29 (NIV)

In Christ’s Parable of the Talents when it comes time to sum up our lives, the only standard that counts is how well we measure up to our own potential. Christ wants us to invest the gifts He has given by serving and giving to others without restraint.

Dear God, please guide me to give my gifts without restraint.

Cheerfully Give

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.—2 Corinthians 9:6 (ESV)

If you are having trouble making ends meet or if your time is so scarce that you can’t find a minute to spare for someone who needs you, stop today and give something out of your poverty. According to God’s Word, giving is a key to receiving and the person who gives will, in return, have blessings given to them.
Lord, help me prioritize my life so that I have time to give.

Picture It

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.—Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

A successful approach to accomplish a goal is to picture yourself having done so ahead of the fact. If you can see something in your mind, it’s easier to believe it possible, and anything is possible if you can believe. Visualize a positive outcome.

Lord, guide me to worthy goals, and help me reach them.

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”—Psalm 51:10 (NIV)

Spring is the perfect time to clean your spirit. Open the windows of your soul and invite the fresh, clean wind of the Holy Spirit. Sort through the emotional clutter you have accumulated and toss out the grievances and resentments that grow like dust bunnies.

Right a Wrong

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.—Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

When you have been wronged, do you let resentment tie up your life in knots? Don’t let animosity sap you of strength, and sidetrack you from moving forward. Pray to be free of hard-hearted feelings. When you have hurt another with some action or omission, ask for forgiveness. Then, whether you receive it or not, put the experience behind you.

Lord, help me overlook other’s faults in the hope that they will overlook mine.

Detour to Your Dreams

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.—Proverbs 16:9 (NLT)
When life throws a roadblock in your path—whether it comes in the form of illness, or an accident or a job loss—look again. It may be only a jog in the road, a different route leading to real fulfillment. A detour can sometimes lead you to your dream.
Keep my faith from ebbing, Lord. When obstacles arise, help me to trust Your plan.
