Get in God’s Groove

I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.—Matthew 11:28 (MSG)

Jesus taught that we should value people over tasks. When you give as He gave—sharing your time with others, caring for people and offering comfort where needed—you can experience life in an unhurried, calm and peaceful way. It’s the perfect way to understand the “unforced rhythms of grace.”

Heavenly Father, when I make the time to get away with You, walk with You and work with You, I experience the divine groove of stress-free, faith-filled living.

One Grateful Leper

Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?”—Luke 17:17 (NIV)

In the above Scripture, Jesus healed ten lepers but only one threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked Him. Gratitude is an important part of faith, a spiritual discipline that opens our hearts to His love. What are you thankful for? Share your praise with Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You!

Are You the One?

Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?—Matthew 11:3 (NIV)

Have there been moments in your life when you questioned, “Jesus, are you the One?” Times when you feel off-balance by an opportunity or situation and doubt that this is the turn your life should take? In these moments, trust that it is God at work in your life and you will not only stretch the boundaries of what you are capable of, you will develop greater faith.

Lord, You continue to do miraculous, amazing things in my life! You are the One!

When you feel frustrated about a situation, pray the above verse. Feel God’s peace calming you. Ask Him to help you let go of difficult emotions. Breathe His Spirit into you and see this trying moment as an exercise in faith—of stretching your love and patience—and growing deeper and closer to Him.

Life’s Unexpected Detours

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.—Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

This verse is a reminder that that no matter how much you plan or set your heart on an outcome, sometimes things don’t go your way. When your life goes off the beaten track, try to be flexible and accept that God’s ways aren’t always what we hoped or planned for, but ultimately they are for the best.

God Almighty, help me relinquish my controlling grip when things take a major turn. Help me to align my will with Yours.

Live Life to the Fullest

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.—Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said, “Don’t be satisfied with a half life. God never said, ‘I’ll give you a half life, I’ll give you a desultory life.’ He said, ‘I give you life!’ ” What’s holding you back from living your best life? Jesus gave everything so that you can live your life to the fullest. The time is now.

Dear Lord, I vow to make the most of all my days—to live fully, with joy and love.

Patience…God’s Promise Takes Time

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming…. Be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.—James 5:7-8 (NIV)

Learning to wait is a necessary part of being prepared to receive God’s promise. It’s not a matter of time, but a matter of trust. When you open your heart to faithfully waiting, you pave the way for His promises to work in your life.

Lord God, help me to learn to appreciate the waiting periods and experience every moment in the fullness of Your love.

When Temptation Knocks

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.—Hebrews 2:18 (NIV)

Jesus’ actions when he was tempted show us that the best way to fight temptation is to focus on the bigger picture. When you know and use God’s Word you are equipped to resist whatever trials you face. Jesus knows what it is to be tempted and understands what you are going through.

Heavenly Father, my faith and my relationship with You is more important than any temptation.

God in the Rearview Mirror

For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings, I sing for joy.— Psalm 63:7 (NASB)

When you feel lost and uncertain about what the future holds, pause for a moment and look back at your life. Reflect on the many instances where you were guided and blessed by God; the times when you could clearly feel Him helping you. Know He is with you now. He is helping you.

Merciful God, when I am in the midst of a difficult time and cannot recognize Your presence in my life, I trust You are helping me. I know I am not alone.

Jesus Will Restore You, Time and Again

But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.—Matthew 26:70 (NIV)

As Jesus predicted, Peter denied knowing Him three times. Later, after Jesus’ resurrection, He asked Peter three times, “Do you love Me?”—giving Peter multiple chances to correct his wrongdoing and respond with love. Like He did for Peter, Jesus offers us His grace and forgiveness, every time we doubt or turn away from Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your endless grace and forgiveness that helps me to grow closer to You in faith.

The Seven ‘I Am’ Statements

I am the light of the world.—John 8:12, 9:5 (NLT)

Jesus made seven “I am” statements in the Gospel of John: I am the bread of life, I am the light of the world, I am the gate for the sheep, I am the good shepherd, I am the resurrection and the life, I am the way and the truth and the life, and I am the vine. With these declarations, Jesus went to great lengths to clarify His mission and to help the people understand that He is the Messiah. He is the Light in the darkness.

Lord Jesus, You are the resurrection and the life. You are the truth and the Light.

Maker of Great Endings

Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.—Luke 8:39 (NASB)

Some of life’s worst experiences serve as our greatest lessons. Through our struggles, we learn to trust, to have faith and to recognize God’s touch in our lives. Every Christian has a faith story—that “Aha!” moment when they first experienced God’s divine love. When we share how our faith has helped us through tough times, we share His love and offer comfort to those who need a boost of hope.

Maker of Miracles and Great Endings, may my testimony be a beacon of light to someone in the darkness.
