See the Unseen

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.—Hebrews 11:1 NIV

As we close 2021, reflect on the many times you had courageous and strong faith—believing in the unseen. You rose against adversity, and saw beyond distressing news. You envisioned the brightness of better days. As you stand on the edge of a new year, know that you have developed your vision to see possibilities rather than problems.

Lord, You bless me with great faith. You take away my doubts and nudge me to believe the best is yet to come.

Sing a New Song

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand.—Psalm 149:6 (KJV)

This momentous, one-of-a-kind year, with all the changes and challenges due to the pandemic, has an upside. It has helped us to grow—to accept the uncertainty of the future and to be ready and willing to sing a new song because we know that God is with us.

Lord, as this year comes to a close, guide me to embrace the unknown and to praise You for being beside me along the way.

Energize Your Life

That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you.—Philippians 2:13 MSG

Need a boost of energy as we wind down from Christmas and wind up for the New Year? Turn to the Source of all energy—God! Keep a Bible nearby and open it to the Psalms. Be energized through the power and presence of God’s Word.

Heavenly Father, refresh my spirit. Give me the energy to carry on all I hope to do as we wrap up this holiday season. Fill me with joy and help me cherish this special time.

The Rock of Your Salvation

See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.—Romans 9:33 (NIV)

Jesus is the rock of your salvation. If you don’t have faith in Him, you will stumble. When you find yourself in a tough situation ask if it is your own doing that resulted in the outcome. When you put your faith in God, He will guide you to take the right actions.

Heavenly Father, thank you for Your infinite patience as You lead me down the right path.

The Message of the Shepherds

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”—Luke 2:15 (NIV)

The shepherds wanted to witness the miracle of the Savior’s birth. They wanted to experience Jesus for themselves. This Scripture encourages you to be like the shepherds—search for Him until you stand firmly in His Presence.

Dear Lord, thank You for the everlasting love and light that Your son brought to the world.

Anticipation: A Waiting World

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.—Luke 2:10 (KJV)

The eve of our Savior’s birth, there is one word that captures the day: anticipation. Tomorrow is a day of celebration! A day that we can hold in our hearts, a day that is proof that peace prevails, hope is eternal and great joy is possible for all.

Jesus, You fulfill my anticipation and provide eternal joy for all who believe.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.—Luke 2:11 (KJV)

God’s Gift of Forgiveness

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.—Romans 8:1 (NIV)

Is there something in your past that you simply cannot put behind you? If you are having a hard time forgiving yourself or someone else, talk to God. He longs to transform your life through the grace of His forgiveness.

Heavenly Father, Your forgiveness is one of the greatest gifts in this world. Help me to put the past behind me, so I can move forward with a healed heart.

Glory to God

As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.—1 Peter 4:2 (NIV)

You bring glory to God when you use your spiritual gifts to build up your faith and to strengthen unity with others. The more you share your gifts and bless others—the stronger your faith and your love of God will become.

Lord, I pray that I bring glory to Your eternal message by doing things that bring peace on earth and goodwill to man.

Share the Little Things with Him

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.—Luke 12:7

What is on your mind? If it matters to you, it matters to God. No doubt this has been an especially challenging year with social distancing, solitude and many unknowns. Jesus knows your worries and your pain. He longs to comfort you. Unburden your heart and let Him carry your load.

Dear Lord, when my mind races with worries—big and small—guide me to remember the many times you have provided for my needs. Help me feel Your absolute peace.

Sing the Song in Your Heart

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.—Acts 16:25 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul sang in prison despite being tormented and broken-hearted. He knew that joy has more to do with what is in our hearts than our outer circumstances. No matter where you are, or what challenges you face, your relationship with Jesus can bring you joy.

Lord, I long to be true like the Apostle Paul—knowing that nothing in this world can silence Your song in my heart.

Fear Not

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.—2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Fear can be crippling, stopping you from doing the very things that God is calling you to do. His love can help you overcome all obstacles. Pray for the confidence to follow your heart. Read over some of the many Scriptures in the Bible that begin with “fear not,” and trust that He is ready to help you accomplish your greatest achievements.

Lord, I know You are with me every step of the way. Give me the courage to take that leap of faith. Because of You, I know that I am not alone in the fight against fear.
