Take Jesus at His Word

“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.—John 4:50 NIV

Sometimes Jesus asks us to act on faith and take Him at His word; the miracle comes after we follow His instruction. If you are stuck facing a problem pray for God’s guidance and ask for help in believing and trusting His power in your life.

Dear Lord, give me the courage to act on Your word—and to see beyond my problems to Your power.

Countless Blessings Await

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.—Psalm 103:2 ESV

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said, “A basic law: the more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for. This, of course, is a fact. Thankfulness does tend to reproduce in kind.” Each night, instead of rehashing the day or worrying about tomorrow, count your blessings and thank God for each of them.

Heavenly Father, You are my joy! Thank You for the countless ways you bless me.

When You Let God Down

“God, show mercy to me, a sinner.”—Luke 18:13 CEB

When you feel that you’ve let God down, it can be difficult to find the right words to pray. Asking for His mercy is a perfect place to begin. You can’t change the past, but you can release your regrets to the Lord and begin anew today.

Have mercy on me, Lord. Lift regret from my heart. Help me let go of the past and forgive myself as You have forgiven me.

From Trouble to Triumph

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.—John 14:16 NIV

When something is causing you heartache, ask God to help you through it. When trials and troubles overwhelm you, trust that He will guide you through the ordeal. Remind yourself that from the perspective of a week or a month, a nagging problem usually vanishes from your mind.

Lord, show me how to put my problems into perspective.

Remarkable Endings

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!—2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

It’s been said that no one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. Is there a change you need to make in your life? God is ready to meet you where you are today, to wrap you in His arms and help you begin anew.

Heavenly Father, I am ready. Walk me into a new chapter of my life.

Open Your Heart

He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”).—Mark 7:34 NIV

When Jesus healed the deaf man, he yelled out, “Be opened!” When you are open to trusting God, you are receptive to His guidance, help and healing. God is faithful. If you find yourself shutting down and facing a crisis of faith, close your eyes and pray, “Be opened!”

Dear Lord, I come to You open and ready for Your healing in my life.

The Cure for Restlessness

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.—Colossians 3:15 NIV

If you are feeling restless, fill your mind with God’s Word. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). Let these verses sink deeply into your mind and spirit.

Heavenly Father, Your Word is a balm for my soul, a blessed oasis of rest and renewal.

Put on the Armor of God

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.—Ephesians 6:11 NIV

According to tradition, St. Patrick wore a breastplate adorned with a special prayer that began, “I arise today through the strength of Heaven.” He wore it as a shield of divine protection. Do you have a special prayer or verse that you hold dear to your heart?

Lord, in the words of St. Patrick’s prayer, “I arise today, through God’s strength to pilot me.”

Hope Springs Eternal

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?—Psalm 42:2 ESV

As you reflect on your life, instead of being critical, be kind and recognize that you are a work in progress and are developing a better and deeper relationship with yourself and God. If you are struggling with a painful memory or a challenging problem, ask God to help you look ahead with hope.

Heavenly Father, help me truly grasp the divine gift of Your presence in my life. You are the Source of all hope.

Turn to Kindness

The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.—Proverbs 25:23 ESV

The next time someone is unkind to you, instead of reacting with anger, practice self-control and find peace. Ask God to help you respond as Jesus would. Exchange good for evil, and try to turn your enemy into your friend.

Lord, when resentment enters my life, guide me to redirect my thoughts and respond purposefully with kindness and patience.
