Choose Your Influence

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.—Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

This Scripture advises you to guard your mind by fixing your thoughts on things worthy of your time. Whenever an undesirable thought or temptation enters your mind, use this verse to think about Jesus and that He is true, honorable, just, pure and lovely.

Lord God, may all my thoughts be pleasing to You.

Life’s Pain Is Not in Vain

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.—2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NIV)

Helen Keller wrote, “Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world. So long as you can sweeten another’s pain, life is not in vain.” When you are suffering, allow Jesus to comfort you so that you may extend His comfort to others.

Dear Lord, help me heal so that I may help another in need.

Glorious Anticipation

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.—Psalm 28:6 (NIV)

Thank God for always hearing your prayers, for being there and always listening to your needs. Praise Him for the many ways He has brought you comfort, blessings and encouragement. Praise Him for His greatness!

Heavenly Father, guide me to live in glorious anticipation as Your plan unfolds.

Put Out the Fire

When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to consume them?”—Luke 9:54 (CEB)

James and John were humiliated and angry when they asked for God to call the fire down. Revenge is not the answer. When you are upset, feeling hurt and rejected, ask God to heal your pain and change your focus to love and compassion.

Dear Lord, keep my spirit in check. Help me douse flames of revenge with Your love.

Your Ever-Present Help

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.—Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

Obstacles and problems help shape your faith, define your character and give you the opportunity to rise to life’s challenges with strength. Fight the urge to worry about tomorrow. Instead, focus on today and what you can do right now.

Lord, help me do my best and let go of the rest. Help me feel safe and secure.

Practice Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.—John 14:27 (NIV)

Your Heavenly Father is ever present, ever protecting, keeping you in His daily care. Whenever you feel stressed, turn to this verse and believe Christ’s promise: There is nothing to fear.

Dear God, still my heart and calm my fear. Help me go forward with confidence knowing I am divinely led.

Relinquish the Struggle

The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.—Song of Solomon 2:12 (ESV)

Wildflowers grow and flourish under God’s care, a beautiful reminder that even when life seems overwhelming there is no need to struggle—God will take care of you. Today, simply trust Him. Pray and leave your uncertainties with Him as you fill your mind with His peace.

Lord, when I panic, guide me to sense Your presence. Help me face the situation with Your strength.

Living Water

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.”—John 7:37 (NIV)

Just as your body needs water, your spirit thirsts for God’s presence. Open your heart to welcome the streams of living water to flow within you. Drink in His goodness and grow to bear spiritual fruit.

Nourishing Lord, guide me to live fully; fill me with Your spirit.

Keep Moving Forward

We share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.—Romans 8:17–18

When you are going through dark times, keep moving and keep on putting your hope in Jesus, the Light of the world. Know that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and every tunnel offers lessons that will help you grow. Every tunnel moves you forward to a destination.

Lord, during times of darkness I trust You. Together we will make it to the other side.

Well-Lived, Well-Loved

He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed with no one’s regret. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.—2 Chronicles 21:20 (ESV)

This verse is a cautionary tale—a bold message of how not to live—shown by King Jehoram’s wicked life. A purposeful journey is built on love and acts of service and is guided by faith.

Dear Lord, help me live my life guided by Your love. Help me prepare my heart so that I will follow You every step of the way.

Breathe Christ

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.—2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NIV)

Breathe in God through prayer. Every day is a fresh start. Embrace the new. There is nothing to fear. God knows your past and is in control of your future. With Him in your life, you have all that you need. You are complete.

Father God, a wonderful, joyful, peaceful life awaits!

God of Thunder

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.—Psalm 29:3 (NIV)

Lightning and thunderstorms can be loud and scary, energizing and booming. An exquisite display of light and wonder. The next time you experience a summer storm, ask God to thunder into your life and bring light to the darkness in flashes of glorious awe.

Lord, Your Word streaks light into my life.
