A Prayerful Farewell

This is my last blog for Guideposts, as I assume a Senior Pastor position at the Naugatuck United Methodist Church. I will always cherish OurPrayer in my heart.

Peola Hicks

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. (Psalm 23:6a)

Prayer has been an integral part of the fabric of Guideposts for over 60 years. For the past eight years, I have had the wonderful privilege of leading the prayer team, OurPrayer.

OurPrayer started as a tribute to Ruth Stafford Peale, co-founder of the organization. We wanted to create a service that would live up to the level of trust that had been established between our organization and our readers, followers and supporters .

We also wanted to challenge ourselves by letting people know that we were committed to lifting their prayers up individually, by name and by need. This led us to our tag line, “Reaching Out, Lifting up.”

From its inception, the OurPrayer team has worked diligently to support our great network of volunteers who pray for others day and night in every state and 64 countries around the world. We have expanded into Facebook, and now the sky is the limit for where OurPrayer can go digitally.

We could not have accomplished all of this without the Lord’s goodness following us on a daily basis. God could tell when we were going off course, and he provided correction and adjustments as needed. Many of you have walked with us, commenting on the blogs and the prayer nuggets that came your way.

I believe that God now wants to put me on a different path. He is still with me and with OurPrayer, though we are no longer together. This is my way of saying “farewell.”

I will always cherish OurPrayer in my heart, and just as our volunteers have prayed for you, they are also praying for me now, as I assume a Senior Pastor position at the Naugatuck United Methodist Church in Naugatuck, Connecticut.

I have appreciated all of the well-wishes for me, and I pray that you will be blessed as well.

Goodness and love are still following me, and for that, I am grateful. This is my last blog for Guideposts, but Peola’s Prayer Points will have a presence on Facebook.

Prayer Point: Cherish the memories and people and places that God has graced you with. It may not feel like God is following your every move, but if you start to pay attention, you may be surprised.

When you pray, thank God for His goodness and love that is with you always. Hope to see you on Facebook.
