Blessings From Heaven
The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.—Deuteronomy 28:12 (NIV)
One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him.—DANIEL 7:13–14 KJV
Daniel, God’s prophet, spent his life serving the Babylonian government that took him captive as a young man. Despite Nebuchadnezzar, the barbaric king, Daniel prospered because God was with him. Now an old man, he dealt with the difficult new king, Belshazzar, and the threat Persia presented to Babylon.
During this unstable time, Daniel also dreamed of terrible beasts that represented wars between world powers. No doubt this elderly statesman felt deep concern about his loved ones’ future and the fate of Israelites living in Babylon. But God gave Daniel a vision of Himself, the all-powerful Ancient of Days. He also showed Daniel one of the clearest pictures of Jesus in the Old Testament, a scene in which His everlasting kingdom was established and He was worshipped by all people.
In these difficult times, we worry about our country, our loved ones, and ourselves. But the same God who guarded Daniel in the midst of constant danger reminds us of His supreme power and that of His Son, who will one day destroy evil and rule in righteousness and peace.
Almighty God, please forgive me when I fixate on circumstances. You have redeemed the past; help me trust You for the present and the future.
The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.—Deuteronomy 28:12 (NIV)
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.—Matthew 5:11–12 (NIV)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.—Psalm 139:13–14 (NIV)
