The Gift of Forgiveness
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.—Colossians 3:13 (NIV)
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.—PSALM 16:8 ESV
Many challenges of caregiving can shake us. We face financial troubles, inadequate health care for our loved ones, family and personal issues relating to caregiving stress—the list can be long. Under such pressures, it’s easy to feel alone, even deserted by God.
But God never deserts His own. Maybe we’re deserting Him by assuming He’s the source of such problems. If we blame Him for our hardships, doubt and bitterness can push a wedge between us. Then we lose our one sure Friend.
Few challenges are pleasant, but dwelling on them—without seeking solutions—leaves us mired in pain and doubt. Instead, to the best of our ability, we should actively rise against our challenges. Maybe we need to seek help from a family member, friend, or a member of the medical, financial, or even legal professions. Wise action can bring solutions.
By setting our eyes on God, our eternal authority and support, we need never be shaken. His strength will guide us, if only we seek it consistently.
Reach out to Jesus with your right hand. He’s standing there next to you.
Lord, many storms come my way, but You can calm them all. Don’t let bitterness or doubt part us, for I need to cling to Your hand.
