Seeing the Light

“I am the light of the world.”—JOHN 9:5 NKJV

Let’s be honest with ourselves. We’ve all faced those “dark” moments that long-term caring for someone can bring. We’ve experienced bouts of self-pity, frustration, anger, envy, doubt, confusion, even despair.

Like people deep within a cave, we’ve found ourselves surrounded by a blackness that seems overwhelming. Doubts assail us. We question the quality of care we’re giving and the decisions we’re making. We may even doubt God’s concern for us, wondering if He’s totally unaware of how badly we hurt.

Jesus doesn’t want this darkness to swallow us. Have you ever noticed the light that a full moon gives off? Far more powerful than that is Jesus’ light. It cuts through the darkness, sending it fleeing away. His light shows us the path we should travel, a path filled with encouragement and hope.

Don’t stumble around in the darkness of despair. When gloom and shadows try to overtake you, call on Jesus. The
darkness is no match for His true light.

Dear God, it’s easy to get caught up in discouraging thoughts or feelings of helplessness. May I see Your light in all my situations—and may it guide me safely home.
