Guard Your Heart
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.—COLOSSIANS 1:13–14 MSG
It was as if he’d fallen into a deep, dark hole. Sleep, withdrawal, and numbness were his coping mechanisms. Going through the motions, trapped in despair, stuck in the ugliness of his sin—he seemed helpless to make the necessary changes within himself. He’d dealt with these same battles years before, thinking he’d conquered them. Yet here they were again, creeping through the chambers of his heart and mind and wreaking havoc on his spirit.
The message of the gospel doesn’t leave any of us there, trapped in sin and misery with no hope of rescue. God sent His Rescuer, Jesus Christ, who plucks us out of the dungeon of despair, transferring us into His kingdom of light. It’s a message of hope that says we are not consigned to our habitual ruts.
Have the struggles of caregiving led you into bad, even sinful, habits? Those dead-end alleys, so void of purpose, aren’t the place to be. We walk in God’s bright and beautiful kingdom. Get out of that pit, striding confidently toward Him, enjoying life to its fullest.
Glory to You, Jesus! You have rescued me from the pit and lifted me to Your kingdom of real life and victory. Help me to walk in that truth today.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.—1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”—Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV)
