The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.—HEBREWS 9:27–28 NIV

After we’ve been Christians awhile and traveled down the road of our spiritual journey, it’s easy to lose sight of what started us on our way. Christ’s blood paid the price for our sins and is the cost of our spiritual journey. From His death, we receive several benefits.

We get forgiveness of sins. Not only did Jesus pay the price for everything we ever have done or ever will do wrong, but God annuls our sins. He treats them as if they never happened. This means we are rescued from the judgment we deserve for our sinful rebellion. In addition, we are brought into God’s family.

After Jesus rose from the dead, He made a promise to return and give us a permanent place in heaven. He sent the Holy Spirit to live inside us and to act as the deposit on the contract that He will return one day to fulfill.

The journey of faith is not free, but Jesus has paid the price. We receive freedom now and hope for the future.

Precious Jesus, thank You so much for paying the penalty for our sins. May we never become complacent and forget the price You paid. Help us to be continually grateful. Amen.
