Guard Your Heart
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”—ZEPHANIAH 3:17 NIV
What kind of picture does this verse create in your mind? The Lord is a mighty warrior who leads the armies of angels. Yet He is with us. One of Jesus’ names is Immanuel, literally the “with us God.” He takes delight in us. He doesn’t rebuke us. He rejoices over us with singing.
This verse from Zephaniah is like a sampler of God’s attributes. Look them over again. How does each of these characteristics show up in your relationship with Him? What attribute do you need to know more about? Which do you struggle with?
We sing worship songs to God, but have you thought about His joy over you being so great He bursts out into song? Or maybe He sings you a sweet lullaby like a parent does to a small child. Next time you sing a worship song, think about what kind of song God would sing about you. Let that fuel your worship of Him and deepen your relationship with the One who loves you so greatly.
Heavenly Father, it is almost too much for us to comprehend that You, the Creator of the universe, could sing about us. We want to understand that, even in just the small way our minds can handle. Show us Your love and help us to love You more deeply. Amen.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.—1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”—Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV)
