Divine Light in the Shadows
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.—Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.”—JOSHUA 6:2 NIV
Joshua trusted God. Which was a good thing, because his marching orders must have seemed like some of the craziest ever. March around a city in a certain order a certain number of times, make a lot of noise, and the walls will collapse. It probably didn’t sound like any battle plan he’d ever heard of. But Joshua was faithful and obedient. God told Joshua in advance of the battle that it would be won. Joshua just needed to be faithful and do what God had said.
Today we honor the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. They made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. They were faithful in their service, just as Joshua was faithful to obey God. We may not all be called to such a sacrifice, but we all face battles of various sizes. We can know, like Joshua, that God is always with us. He goes before us and the battle is His. Our job is to be faithful and obedient.
Dear Lord, we are so thankful to the men and women who were faithful in their service and gave their lives to protect our freedom. Help me to be faithful in my obedience to You and remember that no matter the size of the battle I’m facing, You are with me. Amen.

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.—Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it.—Isaiah 35:8 (NIV)

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.—Proverbs 11:3 (NIV)
