Steadfast in Faith
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.—Romans 15:13 (NIV)
My times are in your hands.—PSALM 31:15 [NIV]
It was 3:00 pm, and I was anxious. The doctor still hadn’t sent an important prescription to the pharmacy for my husband, Ralph, who has COPD.
“It’s my own fault,” I said out loud, shaking my head. I hadn’t realized the prescription had run out until it was too late. I’d only left a message with the doctor that morning.
“I doubt if we’ll get your medication today,” I told Ralph. “I’m so sorry.”
Lately, it was getting harder and harder to manage his growing list of medications, doctors’ appointments, tests, home healthcare and medical equipment. I used charts and spreadsheets to help navigate the medical maze, and yet had still somehow lost track of this particular medication.
Now Ralph’s feet were swollen and there was extra fluid on his lungs. I knew he wouldn’t have a good night without the prescription, and I was getting more and more panicked. Take a deep breath, I told myself. Sometimes you’ll make mistakes. Give this to God. We’ll find a way to manage if the prescription comes in tomorrow instead of today.
I did the only thing I could think to do. I placed the situation in God’s hands and completely entrusted it to him. Later, I received a call from the pharmacy telling me the prescription would be ready for pick-up by 5:00.
Although God doesn’t answer my every prayer with a quick solution, I believe he’s still at work in every circumstance, big or small.
God, help us to put today in your hands, whatever it may hold.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.—Romans 15:13 (NIV)

But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.—Matthew 6:17–18 (NIV)

The Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.—Romans 8:26 (NIV)
