Sing a New Song

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever.—PSALM 89:1 KJV

Caregiving can wear us down—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But a surefire way to battle weariness is praising our heavenly Father.

Try praising God through song. If you’re out of tune, He doesn’t mind. He’s looking for a joyful noise. Surely if David, battling his enemies, running from Saul, and hiding in caves could sing praises to God, we can, too. The apostle Paul’s voice even serenaded fellow prisoners in jail.

Our circumstances don’t need to control the moment. An obedient heart can find a song. Tune in a Christian radio. Buy a CD to lift your mood. Learning the choruses from church is easy and fun.

Even if you’re in a quiet environment, you can still fill your mind with music. Recall old hymns. Lean on the promises, march onward as Christian soldiers, gaze upon the old rugged cross. Or simply sing a new song. Pick out a beat. Invent phrases. Find excuses to pour out your praise in any and every setting.

God is listening for the rhythm of your heart

Dear Lord, help me find ways to sing praises to Your Name, for You are worthy of praise.
