The Shadow of the Almighty
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.—Psalm 91:1 (AKJV)
You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry.—PSALM 10:17 (NIV)
Jessica was the first reply to the ad I’d placed for a caregiver to help with my grandfather, who had Parkinson’s and was sliding into dementia. Granddaddy Bill was coming to live with us, and as a mother of two small children, I knew we’d need extra support. I put my trust in God to send us the right person.
When I searched for Jessica’s name on Facebook, I saw that her profile said Trust God and Good Things to Come, and I knew she was right for the job. Every Wednesday, she helped shower my grandfather, did laundry and fed him the chocolate he loved. She was a hard worker, but more than that, she was such a compassionate person. She became a dear friend.
Jessica and my grandfather sat and watched television together, the one thing he still liked to do, and talked for hours. She even stayed with him so we could get away on occasional weekends. On one such weekend she sent me a photo of Granddaddy Bill dressed up in a red bow tie, ready to watch Lawrence Welk.
Jessica worked as my grandfather’s caregiver for the four years he was with us. She sat at his bedside reassuring him that it was okay to go see his wife when death drew near. I had trusted God to send me someone I could trust, and he had delivered.
Dear God, thank you for those beautiful and compassionate souls you send to help us in our caregiving journey.

What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.—John 2:11 (NIV)

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.—2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
