Guard Your Heart
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked.—PSALM 37:16 NIV
She sits serenely in the most basic of homes. A thin old mattress, an empty fridge, and a plastic chair are not the ideal comforts for healing after hip surgery, but they are all Paulette has. Her mother, frailer than she, sits with her through the long, slow Jamaican days. Their meager possessions could indicate miserable, bitter hearts, worn and weary from life’s hard battles. But nothing could be further from the truth.
Paulette lives a life far richer than the world’s wealthiest people. She has what no amount of money can buy—peace. Her gentle smile reveals a soul at peace with God. A peace in God. A settled, contented soul, patient and waiting on God.
This woman—poor by the world’s standards—knows that her days of earthly suffering are numbered but her days of heavenly delight are forever. The sweet aroma of her knowledge of Christ radiates through her warm and gracious character.
A visiting American, upon seeing Paulette’s stark environment, asked her, “What can I get to help you and make your healing more comfortable?”
Paulette smiled sweetly, answering, “I have everything I need.”
Lord God, You provide all I need. Help me daily to rest in You, accepting Your arrangement of my life, looking forward to what lies ahead. May I always walk with You.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.—Proverb s 4:23 (ESV)
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.—1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)
And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”—Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV)
