Speak Kindly
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.—John 15:12 (NIV)
God is the builder of everything.—HEBREWS 3:4 NIV
While planning to renovate the living room, a husband and wife most wanted to change two large rectangular posts that stood floor-to-ceiling in the middle of the room.
But the couple’s cautious contractor didn’t remove the posts. He explained that, without the posts as support, the room’s ceiling could come crashing down.
Unlike that contractor, God—the renovator of hearts— doesn’t work cautiously. When He begins renovations, He removes (or allows the removal of) all existing supports. Maybe that “support” is health—ours or a loved one’s. Maybe it’s our savings. Maybe it’s something else. Our lives, as we know them, crash. We hurt. We don’t know how we can go on.
But God knows. If we let Him, He’ll replace the temporary supports we’d relied on—health, independence, ability, you name it—with eternal spiritual supports like faith, surrender, and prayer. Those supports enable us to live a life of true freedom, one abounding with spiritual blessing.
Lord, I am tempted to cling to the supports I’ve erected. When my life crashes, I’m tempted to despair. Please help me to be still and place my trust in You, the great builder of all lives.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.—John 15:12 (NIV)

Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.—1 Timothy 5:3 (NIV)

Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.—Acts 2:38 (NIV)
