The Courage to Move Forward
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.—PSALM 34:7 (NIV)
Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.—MATTHEW 11:29 AMP
So often, well-meaning people urge a caregiver to rest: “Go take a nap. Lie down for a bit.” If only dealing with exhaustion was that easy. The emotional turmoil of caregiving can keep our minds whirring and adrenaline pumping. Even resting becomes a chore—peace of mind and spirit seems impossible. But with God, all things are possible.
In his commentary on Matthew 11:29, Adam Clarke states, “Strange paradox! That a man already weary and overloaded must take a new weight upon him, in order to be eased and find rest! But this advice…[means to] trust thy soul and concerns to him, and he will carry both thyself and thy load.” Jesus calls us to be harnessed to Him. No worry is too big or small for His attention.
God is concerned about everything that happens to us—and He doesn’t want us to carry the weight of our burdens alone. Take the first step; breathe out a prayer. Give God your problems. He promises to give you His peace and rest in return.
Dear Lord, weariness has set in. Please refresh my spirit and give me rest.

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”—Mark 11:23 (NIV)

“Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”—1 Samuel 3:9 (NLT)
