Joseph’s Abiding Faith

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.—Matthew 1:24 NIV
As we reflect on Advent, look to Joseph’s faith and how his actions are shaped by his deep trust in God. Joseph followed the direction of the angel in his dream and did not hesitate to wed Mary. Later in subsequent dreams, Joseph did as he was told with unquestioning obedience.
Heavenly father, in this time of preparation and renewal help me to be obedient to Your Will and Your Word.

Make Room for Jesus

Be very careful, then, how you live— not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.—Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV

December can be a busy month with lots of festivities and holiday commitments. Make sure to focus your heart on the true reason for the season. There was no room for Jesus when he was born at the inn. Make room for Him now in your heart.

Lord Jesus, my heart is open and waiting for You. Bless me with Your presence.

Trim Your Tree

I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.—Hosea 14:8 NLT

The Christmas tree is a symbol of our everlasting life with God. Just as the evergreen remains unchanged in winter, your relationship with the Divine is eternal. As you trim your tree with bright bulbs, meditate on the blessed Light God brings to your life.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your eternal love that is always ready to forgive, restore and save me.

The Master Carpenter

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.—Mark 6:2–3 NIV
Jesus skillfully constructs our lives. Our experiences sand away the rough edges and smooth out our character. He invests His time, love and tender care in completing each and every one of us.
Lord Jesus, You are the Master Carpenter shaping us into works of art.

Conquer Your Giants

Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.—Joshua 14:12 NKJV

Do you ever feel as if you are standing at the foot of a mountain wondering if you can conquer your giants? Fear can convince you to back down and surrender before you even try. With Jesus’ help you can stand your ground and tackle anything!

Lord Jesus, no matter what I think are my limitations, with Your help I can be victorious!

Rooted in Jesus

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.—Colossians 2:6–7 NIV

Jesus wants us to grow spiritually strong and develop deep and strong roots by studying His Word and following His guidance. The more time we devote to our relationship with God, the stronger we grow.

Heavenly Father, I praise You for planting me firmly as I grow in faith.

Share Your Problems

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.—James 5:16 NIV
There is a reason that God asks us to confess our sins to one another. It’s not to shame us but rather to share our burdens. When we are honest about our trials and troubles with others, we help one another heal.
Lord, thank You for helping me see that sharing my problems helps me to trust and heal.

Are You on the Right Road?

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.—Matthew 7:13–14 NIV

Jesus spoke of two roads; the hard to find, narrow gate that leads to eternal life and the popular, wide gate that leads to destruction. Are you on the right road? The journey is not always easy on the less popular route, but the trip is filled with meaning and the view is heavenly!

Lord, I am so thankful to be on this journey with You.

The Answer to All Your Prayers

Then when you call, the Lord will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.—Isaiah 58:9 NLT
Is an unanswered prayer weighing on your heart? Know that sometimes God answers prayers not with solutions, or new situations, but by giving Himself—by being there. Think of your unanswered prayer and then feel His spirit descending on you. Listen for His words, Yes, I am here.
Lord God, You presence answers all my prayers.

Safe in His Palm

If the Lord delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.—Psalm 37:24–25 NIV
Jesus is always there for you—when you are full of fear, confused, out of control, filled with doubt, or so busy you can barely see straight—He is there to guide you. He is faithful and able to keep you upright. He is keeping you out of harm’s way.
Lord Jesus, I am so grateful that You are with me, holding me in the palm of Your hand.

This Blessed Moment

Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.—Ecclesiastes 7:10 NIV

Most people spend a lot of time reliving the past or focused on what might happen—all the while squandering the gift of the moment. Make right now your focus. Appreciate where you are, and be grateful that you are here.

Heavenly Father, this is the first minute of the rest of my life.

God Is Well

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.—Ephesians 6:13 NIV
Sometimes fear and panic can paralyze your spirit and make you feel helpless. If this happens say, Heavenly Father, help me trust myself completely to Your healing hand and to rest in Your great love. Align your will and your spirit with His full armor and divine power.
Heavenly Father, when negative thinking and worries plague me, help me remember that I stand with You.
