A Supreme Act of Faith

Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.—Genesis 8:20 NIV
The first thing Noah did after leaving the ark was to build an altar and offer sacrifices to praise God. Consider how he must have felt stepping off the ark onto steady ground. Reflect on times in your life when you needed to act on faith alone.
Heavenly Father, I yearn to be as obedient to Your call as Noah was—to boldly follow Your instructions and always put You first.

His Living Word

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.—Hebrews 4:12 NIV

God speaks through Scripture. His word is alive and active. Open your Bible and let His word transform your life. Allow the power of Scripture to enter your heart, mind and spirit.

Heavenly Father, Your word is at work right now, comforting and guiding me.

Release Your Fears to God

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.—Isaiah 41:10 NIV
What are you afraid of? Whether it’s dread of loneliness, loss, catastrophe or suffering, all of us have something which triggers anxiety and separates us from God. Share your worries with the Lord and ask Him to transform your weakness into strength.

Lose Spiritual Weight

Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.—Hebrews 12:1 ESV
One way to get more energy is to lay aside the heavy weights that sap your strength — burdens such as fear, hate, anger, impatience and all types of sin. In fact, sin is the heaviest of all weights, and it must be laid aside to continue forward on your spiritual journey.
Dear Jesus, help me let go of the things that bring me down. Energize my spirit with Your Light.

Turn Resolutions to Answered Prayers

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.—Matthew 26:41 NIV
Often when we seek to make a change in our lives, we work on it for a while, then gradually forget. Before and during our efforts to change, pray for the strength to stay on track and persevere in reaching your goals.
Dear Lord, I believe that I can do all things because You give me strength.

Gifts of the Moment

From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.—John 1:16 NLT
Often we forget to appreciate the little things, to notice the everyday blessings that brighten our lives. The beauty of waking up to a winter wonderland or a cardinal appearing like a scarlet exclamation point outside your window. Every good gift is from above, especially little love notes from God.
Dear Lord, help me notice the blessings You have placed in my life.

When Things Fall Apart

Be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”—Hebrews 13:5 NIV
The word “contentment” derives from two Latin words, con and I, meaning “to hold together.” When you have faith in God, your mind will “hold together” so efficiently that you can recover from any disappointment or crisis. If you always remember that God is on your side, you can be content no matter what comes your way.
Heavenly Father, I can live a life of contentment even when things seem to fall apart because I know You are holding all things together.

Change Takes Time

Put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.—Ephesians 4:24 NLT

Sometimes spiritual growth happens overnight. Most times, it is a gradual process that takes patience and dedication. Don’t be discouraged if your faith walk hasn’t progressed as far as you hoped. God isn’t in a hurry!

Heavenly Father, if I feel discouraged or troubled by doubt and disbelief help me to remember that faith is patient.

He Speaks in Silence

But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.—Matthew 6:6 ESV
It’s been said that God’s first language is silence. Sometimes to hear the voice of God we must turn down the noise of our lives and turn our attention towards listening. Stillness and quiet can be a heavenly practice bringing us closer to God.
Heavenly Father, help me silence my internal chatter and open my heart to the whispers of Your voice.
