Feeling Frazzled

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.—Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

If you feel as if there is never enough time in the day, your nerves are frazzled, and you are too tired to think straight, carve out some time and lift your concerns to God. Sit by yourself, close your eyes and empty your mind. These moments keep you in touch with God, who speaks to us when we are relaxed enough to hear His wisdom. Christ said, “The Kingdom of God is within” (Luke 17:21); look quietly inward and discover His Kingdom.

Heavenly Father, help me still my mind so I may hear Your guiding voice.

Be Kind to Yourself

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.—Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Some people keep a running list of their failures and regrets and then they wonder why they feel down and depressed. If you make a mistake or say something you wish you hadn’t, let it go. Learn from your blunder and move on. Discipline your thoughts and focus on how you’ve continued on, persevered and succeeded. Look to the good.

Dear God, when I fall into the habit of being hard on myself and dwelling on mistakes, remind me to rejoice in my victories instead.

Faith for Rainy Days

Do you know how God controls the storm and causes the lightning to flash from His clouds?—Job 37:15 (NLT)

It’s easy to see God’s goodness when the sun is shining and all is well, but His goodness is also present on cloudy, rainy days. All serve a purpose and all meet our needs. So if you face a gray day, or if the coming winter months seem a bit bleak, have faith and know in your heart that God’s plan is at work.

Dear Lord, I am receptive to Your ways, the sunshine of life and the rainy days.

Best Friends with Jesus

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.”—John 14:9 (ESV)

Walk and talk with Jesus every day and night. Share all the details. Put your faith and trust completely in Him. Keep company with Him, just like you would any friend.

Dear Jesus, I want to share all my joys and dreams, my troubles. Because of You, I will never have to face anything alone.

Look Up

He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.—Job 9:9 (NIV)

Autumn is a perfect time for star-gazing. The night sky has a magical effect of putting everything into perspective. When life seems chaotic and uncertain, go outside at night and look up. Stand in the stillness and know that the One who made the stars, the One who made Orion never changes and your world, your life is in a perfect pattern, too.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many ways You guide, inspire, and encourage me.

Be Opened!

People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”—Mark 7:37 (NIV)

In the above verse when Jesus healed the deaf man, he yelled out, “Be opened!” Consider this verse and ask yourself how receptive you are to Jesus’ ways. In difficult times when you face financial hardship or illness, do you trust God? If you find yourself shutting down and facing a crisis of faith, close your eyes and pray, “Be opened!”

Dear Lord, help me to wait patiently and faithfully; help me to remain open.

When Your Prayers Run Dry

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.—Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)

Everyone experiences a dry period in their faith—a time when they feel uninspired and unheard in prayer. It’s important to realize that everyone has them… and the way out… is to pray anyway. Reach out to God, and ask Him to heal the desert place of your spiritual life.

Lord, together we can work for Your glory.

Gem of Truth

Jesus said unto him, “If thou canst believeth, all things are possible to him who believeth.”—Mark 9:23 (AKJV)

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale called Mark 9:23 “one of the greatest gems of truth in the greatest book of wisdom in the world.” Anything is possible, if you believe. When you overcome doubt and negativity you open yourself to amazing, miraculous and incredible possibility.

Heavenly Father, guide me to cast out doubt and believe in Your infinite power.

Fear-Proof Your Day

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.—Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

Are you an over-thinker? Instead of releasing your problems to God, do you agonize over solving them, convinced that if you could just figure it out, everything would work out? This exhausting exercise leaves us feeling spiritually empty. Instead, focus your energy on God.

Heavenly Father, sometimes I need help focusing on You and not my fears. Keep me obedient to You and help me trust Your will.

Autumn Inspiration

Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.—Leviticus 23:40 (NIV)

Take a moment and enjoy this beautiful time of year. Look to the trees and the scattered leaves gracing the ground and be inspired to let go of past hurts and disappointments. Forgive yourself of any mistakes. Be ready to bare your heart as the tree stands stark in winter.

Heavenly Father, help me to release feelings and thoughts that hinder my spiritual growth.

Giving in Faith

A righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.—Psalm 34:19 (NIV)

Sometimes volunteering might seem like a thankless task, but the truth is, when you lend your time and energy you benefit as well. If you feel like your best efforts are hardly making a difference, remind yourself that every little bit of generosity counts and that you are blessed by caring for others.

Heavenly Father, help me to give in faith.

Stones of Remembrance

Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones…—Joshua 4:2-3 (NIV)

When you look back at your life, do you focus on the successes, celebrations and victories? Remember the amazing moments of God’s work in your life. These “stones of remembrance” help you overcome the stumbling blocks and weather life’s storms.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many ways You help me. I will remember them deep in my heart and turn to them when I need hope and reassurance of Your glory.
