Take Time to Listen

Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life.—Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NIV)

Many people pray to God and spend so much time asking and talking that they forget to make an effort to listen for His guiding voice. When you listen to the Lord, He will instruct and comfort you.

Dear Lord, thank You for being patient with me. I’m here. I want to listen to You.

Thorn in the Flesh

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.—2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

When the Apostle Paul asked God to take away a “thorn in the flesh,” God said no. Why? Because Paul’s pain was being used by God for a purpose. When you serve God despite your weaknesses and struggles, you show others the grace of His glory.

God of All Goodness, Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Your grace is sufficient for me.

Fight Anger with Prayer

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.—Psalm 37:8 (NIV)

If you are responding to someone who has made you angry, take a moment and calm down. Slow your reaction so that you have time to rise above the situation. Spend time in prayer and reading the Bible. Ask God for His perspective on the situation.

Lord, let me be quick to hear, slow to speak and even slower to anger.

Life without Limits

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”—John 14:6 (NIV)

Heavenly Father, You are always with me and always will be, to the end of my life here into eternity.

Stay on the Right Road

And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it. Isaiah 35:8 (NIV)

You are progressing on the Way of Holiness. Reflect on how you feel as you move toward being more fully centered on God’s will. Take a moment and praise God for the positive changes happening in your faith and your life.

God of Truth, thank You for showing me the Highway of Holiness.

Practice Stillness in God’s Presence

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”—Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

Sometimes the most productive prayer times can be as simple as quietly sitting with God, being still and feeling His presence. Like good friends enjoying the moment—words aren’t necessary. Savor the silence.

Lord, I sometimes forget the importance of being still. Thank You for these precious times where You grace me with silence that renews my mind.

Navigate Life’s Challenges

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. “For in him we live and move and have our being.” As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”—Acts 17:27-28 (NIV)

If your life feels out of control, find a quiet place and take several deep breaths. Focus on what is going on and visualize God in the situation with you. Feel His love and strength.

Dear Lord, You are my Savior, my wise Counselor, guiding me to make the right choices and easing my worries so that I can calmly and confidently navigate through life’s challenges.

Feeling Down?

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, “Destroy them!”—Deuteronomy 33:27 (NIV)

It has been said that February is the most depressing time of the year. If you are feeling down, turn to prayer. Ask God to comfort and guide you to find support and resources that can help. Pray until you feel His everlasting arms around you.

Lord God, shine your heavenly light upon me. Guide me to peace, happiness and contentment.

God Will Rescue You

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.—2 Samuel 22:17 (NIV)

Unexpected problems and everyday stresses can pull you into a place of darkness and deep trouble. If you find yourself drowning in difficulties, reach out to God. Offer Him your worries and challenges. Let Him rescue you.

God’s Little Instructions

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”—Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)

God’s Instructions aren’t always big, momentous life-changing moments. Often He gives us seemingly small instructions, little nudges to point us in the right direction. God is speaking to you all the time. Incline your ear and heart to His words.

Dear Lord, I want to hear and follow Your instructions big and small. Fulfill Your work in my life.
