God of Second Chances

Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”—1 Samuel 23:4 NIV

When you feel lost, go to Him in prayer. God will find you and give you direction. He will always be there to guide and help you—even if you have turned your back on Him—because He is a God of second chances. He will help through His Word and offer you guidance to get through challenging circumstances.

Lord, I come to You today and give you my worries. Guide me with Your infinite wisdom.

Persistent Prayer

…Pray continually….—1 Thessalonians 5:17 NIV

Pastor E. M. Bounds said, “Importunate praying is the earnest, inward movement of the heart toward God. It is the throwing of the entire force of the spiritual man into the exercise of prayer.” Do not be discouraged if your prayer to God feels unanswered. Follow the model of the persistent widow and know that God hears you.

Dear God, I trust You and have faith that You know what is best for me. Your timing is perfect; all is well.

Think Godly Thoughts

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.—Romans 12:2 NIV

Lord, I am ready to live by Your Word. Guide me to draw closer to You as I read and reflect on Your truth.

Amen for His Glory

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.—2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

God is always faithful. He will never break a promise, leave or forsake you. When you put your faith in God the answer is always yes. Rejoice! He will always be true to His promises.

Amen to You my God, for Your glory.

Community of Faith

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.—Proverbs 27:17 NIV

Community is an important part of your faith. Take time to meet with people that guide and encourage your relationship with God. Build friendships with others that share your interest in spiritual matters.

Heavenly Father, thank You for connecting me with people that draw me closer to You. Enrich my spiritual journey with opportunities to share my faith with others.

Change of Seasons

Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth.—1 Chronicles 16:33 (NIV)

In the rhythms of God’s creation, He placed cues to help us turn to Him and find meaning and purpose in our lives. Autumn, with its bursting colors of foliage, is often a nudge for us to reflect on our lives and make changes that will help us grow.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the beautiful change of season, that encourages and inspires me to look inward and let go of what is necessary to make new life.

Call Out His Name

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.—Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

You are blessed to have a Father in Heaven that you can always turn to, especially when you’re in need of a miracle or blessing. Nothing is too big or too small for Him. Bring your cares to Him. All of your concerns are significant to Him. Call out His name. He stands ready to help.

Lord, God, I am so thankful for Your presence in my life.

Divine Silver Linings

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.—Psalm 36:5 NIV

February has a fair share of gray, overcast days. The next time the weather has you feeling down, look to the Bible and remember this glorious silver lining—clouds are often a symbol that God is near. From the Lord’s people being led out of Egypt under the cover of a cloud, to the clouds in the ascension and return of Christ, clouds frequently represent God’s glorious presence.

Heavenly Father, I know that Your presence and protection is around me today and every day.

Find Your Passion

But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”—Luke 4:43 NIV

Have you found your passion? Theologian Fred Buchner wrote, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” God has created a specific purpose for your life. If you are unsure of what that might be, ask Him to reveal it to you and then pursue it with all your heart.

Lord, I am ready to live passionately by fulfilling my purpose.

Take What You Need

He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.”—Luke 9:3 NIV

In the above verse, Jesus is telling His disciples that all they need is Him. It’s easy to become distracted by your possessions, to hold on too tightly to what you own, or put too much energy and effort into wanting something that you think is the key to happiness. But Jesus’ directions are still true today—as long as you have Him in your life, you don’t need anything else.

Lord Jesus, I choose You above everything else. You are all I need.
