Actively Seek the Lord

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.—Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV

What a beautiful promise. Seek God and you will find Him! But just as one should enjoy the journey and not just the destination, seeking God is an important and active part of your faith. Make it a practice to actively seek God in your life. The more you search for Him and His good works, the more blessings you will discover.

Almighty God, my faith journey brings me countless blessings—among them is the truth that when I seek You, I feel Your presence.

To Glorify God

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.—Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

Striving to be your best when only you and God know is a beautiful reflection of your faith. Dwight L. Moody famously said, “Character is what you are in the dark.” Your secrets reveal what you really think of yourself and your relationship with God.

Lord, I long to glorify You with good works that only You and I know about.

God is Love

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.—1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

The Bible teaches that God is love, and when love is our motivation—when our actions are guided by selfless love—we truly experience His divine and perfect love. By connecting to God in prayer and feeling the Source of all love, we can shine a bit of heaven onto those around us.

Dear Lord, I long to be generous with my love, extending it to everyone in my life.

Lively Hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.—1 Peter 1:3 KJV

With Easter behind us, it may seem as if the daily grind has taken over and your spirit is weary, but the victory of the cross isn’t behind us at all! Through the resurrection of Jesus, God has promised us “lively” hope. When our human hopes turn to dust, God’s promise abides.

Oh, Lord, open my eyes to see Your gifts. Please remind me of the triumph of Your resurrection in my daily struggles.

Peace from God’s Word

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.—Colossians 3:15 NIV

To relax your spirit fill your mind with God’s Word. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). Let these verses sink deeply into your mind and spirit.

Heavenly Father, shine Your radiance on all aspects of my life. Your Word is balm for my soul, a blessed oasis of rest and renewal.

Let His Presence Light Your Day

Let the light of your face shine on us.—Psalm 4:6 (NIV)

Make a mental list of times in your life when you experienced the grace of God’s watchful care. Recall moments when you were worried and despite your dark thoughts, things turned out fine. He took care of you.

Heavenly Father, shine Your heavenly light upon me. Guide me to peace, happiness and contentment.

Stories of Grace

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.—Hebrews 12:15 (KJV)
In Isaiah 38:15, King Hezekiah wrote: “I will wander my whole life with a bitter spirit.” Yet when Hezekiah called out to God, his bitterness is exchanged for wholeness. When your mood needs improving, look to the Lord and become whole.
Lord, when I become consumed with bitterness, I will call out to You and trade it in, for the wholeness of Your grace.

Letting Go

Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days.—Leviticus 23:40 NIV

Look to the autumn trees and the scattered leaves on the ground and be inspired to let go of the weight of past hurts and disappointments. Release feelings of jealousy and worry that block you from God’s presence.

Heavenly Father, help me shed thoughts and feelings that hinder my faith and block Your love.

Let It Be

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”—Luke 1:38 ESV

The angel’s message was world-changing news. Even though Mary was a virgin, she would conceive and bear a Son Whose name would be Jesus. Mary’s future had just taken a miraculous and frightening turn. What would people think? Yet she responds with faith. “Let it be.” Like Mary, when we don’t understand God’s plan for us, we should put our future in God’s loving hands.

Dear God, guide me to respond to life’s challenges with, “Let it be.” Help me trust Your path and follow it faithfully even when I have doubts.

Glorify God

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward.—Philippians 3:13-14 ESV

In His Hands

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.—1 Peter 5:7 NIV

In times of stress, put your faith in action. Do your best and leave the outcome in God’s hands. Use this affirmation when you fear the future: I put my life in God’s hands. I will trust God’s guidance. I leave the outcome to God.

Heavenly Father, help me focus on You instead of my fear.

Make Peace with Unanswered Questions

“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’”—Job 42:4 NIV

Job longed to understand God’s actions. Often when difficult times befall us, like Job, we want answers. Why did this happen? Faith will lead us to recognize that we can know and love God, yet we must accept that all of our questions will not be answered.

Heavenly Father, help me to find peace with all that is unanswered in my life.
