The Power of Belief

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”—Acts 16:31 (NIV)

Every day, we trust and have faith in things we cannot see. Our very beliefs determine the world we choose to live in. As Dr. Norman Vincent Peale famously said, “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” What are you thinking about?

Almighty God, You have given us the freedom to choose our outlook. Help me choose wisely.

Silence Is Your Friend

The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.—Proverbs 12:18 (NIV)

Be patient with your feelings. Responding to someone in the heat of the moment can escalate situations that could be avoided with time. When your impulse is to immediately respond, wait a minute or two. Pray for your words to bring healing.

Dear Lord, lead me to use my words to mend hearts and relationships.

Love Unanswered Questions

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.—Isaiah 55:8 (NIV)

Do you have a long list of questions for when you get to heaven? Experiences and situations that you just can’t understand—the whys that are beyond your comprehension? Pray for patience. In the words of poet Rainer Maria Rilke, “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.”

Lord, when I toss and turn trying to figure everything out, help me focus on Your love in the current moment.

Better Than Life

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.—Psalm 63:3 (NIV)

Alleluia! What a fitting and fun word to say, to sing, to embody. Today, say it out loud. Shout it out in your house, in the car, when you see a gorgeous sunset. Let it fill you like a deep cleansing breath. Praise Him for all He is!

Alleluia! Lord, my heart is bursting with praise for You!

Make New Mistakes

But those who hope in the Lord renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Let go of the fear of making mistakes, and accept that trial and error is a part of life and learning. God is the creator, the whisperer of new ideas, inventions and relationships. Listen to Him, let go of judgment and allow yourself to make new mistakes.

Dear God, help me look ahead fearlessly with the new life I have in You.

A Beautiful Fact

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.—Deuteronomy 4:39 (NIV)

God is with you, even when life’s chaos overshadows your focus on Him. His light shines on your life, on every single situation you face. There is no need to worry or feel vulnerable because you are not alone.

Dear Lord, security is knowing that You are in control.

The Good Life

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.—Isaiah 55:9 (NIV)

As you approach your day, be open to unexpected plans that God has made for you. Trust that a schedule change or an unanticipated appointment, phone call or any other interruption may be part of a bigger plan than you could have ever imagined on your own.

Heavenly Father, thank You for guiding me to the good life.

Boundless Love

When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, “It would be better for me to die than to live.”—Jonah 4:8 (NIV)

Jonah was angry and tired, wanting to die—absorbed in his own feelings when God gave him a lesson of compassion and taught him the value of caring for others. God had patience and saved Jonah from himself, not once but twice. God’s love for us is boundless.

Lord, when I am too focused on myself to see You and Your blessings, lead me to trust that You are a gracious God.

Respond with Faith

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.—Romans 8:1 (ESV)

A true test of your faith and spiritual maturity is not your actions but your reactions when things go wrong. When you trust God, you know that He can turn your mistakes and problems into blessings.

Dear Lord, Your eye is on the sparrow and I know You care for me.

Worth Your Time

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.—Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

It has been said that anything worth pursuing takes time. When you are in the midst of waiting for a situation to unfold—or patiently anticipating God’s answer—know that you are building the valuable qualities of strength and trust and affirming that God hears you and knows what is best.

Lord, help me grow as I learn the art of waiting.

Love, God

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.—Psalm 89:1 (NIV)

God’s heavenly presence is present—in the sky, the warmth of the sun, a great idea. His beauty and love are all around us. Pay attention. Notice His blessings! His messages of love are always there.

Heavenly Father, today I will seek, see and be grateful for the many ways You show Your love.

Hope for the Future

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.—Philippians 3:13–14 (NIV)

Living a life of faith is the center of glorifying God. Ask God to help you shine His light through works of service. Worship His Word, and allow it to enter your heart and mind. Have hope about your future, and strive to keep your spiritual life on track.

Heavenly Father, may my thoughts, words and actions glorify You.
