Transform Your Heart

The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!—Deuteronomy 30:6 (NLT)
If you have been repeatedly asking God to change something in your life, why not try something new and instead ask Him to change you? In frustrating situations, ask for patience. If you are feeling low spiritually, ask for a greater faith. Feeling let down? Ask Him to guide you toward singing His praises.
Dear God, I am clay in Your hands. Make me new.

Light in Lonely Places

He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.—Daniel 2:22 (NIV)
God knows the lonely, dark places of your life. When you feel alone, reach out to Him and pray for His light to shine on your path. Don’t be discouraged if the distance out of the darkness seems too far to travel. Know that He is with you every moment. He will guide you through.
Heavenly Father, give me the courage to keep going and the mercy and grace to help others facing dark situations.

Trust the Outcome

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.—Psalm 37:23 (NLT)
Henri Nouwen wrote, “You can’t see the whole path ahead, but there is usually enough light to take the next step.” An important part of faith is understanding that when you put your journey into His loving hands, you can trust the outcome.
Lord, surprise me. I don’t need to see the whole picture. I am ready to experience Your mysterious ways.

Every Day of the Year

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the East and have come to worship him.”—Matt hew 2:1–2 (NIV)
Continue the celebration of Christ’s love. When you feel peace and joy within yourself, you can pass that on to those around you. Bring Christmas joy into their hearts all year long, and help others to feel God’s reassuring presence.
Almighty Father, thank You for Your gifts to us. Show us ways to pass these gifts on to others throughout all the days of the year. Amen.

Christmas Hope

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.—Isaiah 9:6–7 (NIV)
Christmas is here at last. Today, as we celebrate the majesty of Jesus’ birth, reflect on the miracle of Christmas. In the words of Isaac Watts: “Joy to the world! The Lord is come; let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing.”
Lord, let Your birth awaken the peace and hope that lives inside me.

Focus on Jesus

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”—Luke 10:41–42 (NIV)
Give yourself the gift of letting go. Let go of the need to be perfect. Perfect gifts, perfect gatherings, planning the perfect day. When you focus on perfection you miss the most important part of the holiday. Instead, sit at Jesus’ feet and focus on Him.
Heavenly Father, tomorrow is Your day and I plan on keeping You the center of my celebration.

Soar with the Eagles

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.—Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
When you are feeling overwhelmed by challenges, turn to God’s Word. Ask Him to help you remove all your doubts. Fully rely on His strength for the encouragement and endurance you need to feel empowered and to be able to face what lies ahead.
Dear God, when I put my faith in You, I soar above my problems and find Your heavenly peace.

God Is with Us

The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”).—Matthew 1:23 (NIV)
God can transform an ordinary moment into an awakening experience. A beautiful sunrise, a perfectly timed yet unplanned meeting with a friend, a song on the radio that seems like a sign from beyond. When you open your heart to noticing God’s presence, you become aware of the beautiful fact that He is always with you.
Lord, thank You for the many ways You show me You are here.

A Blue Christmas

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.—Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
Many churches hold a Blue Christmas today, the shortest day of the year, to recognize that not everyone can embrace Christmas with anticipation. Some people may be struggling with loneliness, grief or the loss of a loved one. Today, pray for comfort for everyone with a grieving heart.
Dear Lord, bring comfort to all those feeling a sense of loss and loneliness. Enfold them in Your great love.

Saved by Grace

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.—Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)
Faith is a gift. Lose yourself—all your fears and insecurities—in God’s great love. Know that He is always near you, helping and loving you, ready to guide you in every problem that you face. He will bring peace and calm to your troubled mind.
How wonderful that You, Almighty God, fill my life with Your greatness and glory.

The Trusting Faith of Joseph

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.—Matthew 1:24 (NIV)
Reflect on the above verse. Joseph’s faith and actions were shaped by his deep trust in God. Joseph faithfully followed the angel’s direction in his dream and did not hesitate to take Mary as his wife.
Heavenly Father, during this wonderful time of hope and renewal, help me to be obedient to Your will.

Home for the Holidays

My people will live in safety, quietly at home. They will be at rest.—Isaiah 32:18 (NLT)
As you prepare your home for the holidays, displaying Christmas cards, setting up the manger and decorating a tree, reflect on the many blessings your household brings to your life. It is truly a shelter from life’s storms, a place of fellowship and love.
Heavenly Father, thank You for my home. May it always be a place of refuge and refreshment, happiness and health.
