What Good Is It?

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?—Mark 8:36 (NIV)
This verse is a reminder of what happens when you focus on selfish ambitions and pursue material things over your relationship with God. What good is having all the money in the world if you are spiritually bankrupt? If you find yourself putting too much importance on the things you own, turn to this verse and pray for God to right your thinking.
Lord, help me to live generously and trust You with my finances.

The Secret Place of the Almighty

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.—Psalm 91:1 (NKJV)
Prayer is an amazing power! When you make God a conscious part of your daily life through prayer, meditating on His Word and surrendering to His will, you enter the secret place of the Almighty.
Lord, when I am tired, You restore me. You take me to Your magnificent sanctuary, Your secret place.

The Right Path

Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets to you. They said, “Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and reform your actions; do not follow other gods to serve them. Then you will live in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention or listened to me.—Jeremiah 35:15 (NIV)
Every morning is a fresh start with a new opportunity for you to take the right path. Know that God’s love will support you through whatever challenges you face. When you need help prioritizing your day, check in with Him.
My Father in Heaven, guide me to use my time for things that will have lasting value.

God’s Good Will

The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.—Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)
Listen to the voice deep in your heart, and be guided by God’s wisdom. Steer away from things that are not in your best interest, even if they are tempting, and make habits and choices that align with your best life.
Heavenly Father, You are my guide. Help me to choose You and to follow Your way.

Travel with Joy

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”—Isaiah 40:3 (NIV)
When the coming days seem like a desert, barren and vast with no clear path or direction, do not lose hope. Trust in God. Welcome His love into your heart. Feel His presence inside you, and know that because of this, you will be able to travel any journey with joy.
Lord, when I feel hopeless, guide my focus back to You. Lord Jesus, when I feel lost, You save me.

The Sweet Fragrance of Prayer

The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.—Revelation 8:4 (NIV)
This verse gives a beautiful image of your prayers rising before God’s throne. When you pray, picture your prayers ascending to meet and please God. Your devotion to Him is treasured. Your prayers rise to meet  Him—they matter!
Lord God, in the words of Psalm 141:2 (ESV), “Let my prayer be counted as incense before You.”

A Season of Waiting

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.—Psalm 33:20 (NIV)
January can seem like a long month, and sometimes waiting on God’s timing can be frustrating and difficult. Fight the urge to run ahead of God. Pray and wait for guidance on what to do. Be honest and let Him know that you are becoming impatient.
Eternal Lord, help me to accept that waiting is a necessary part of Your plan.

Above All Things

Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit nothing?—Isaiah 44:10 (NIV)
Are there false gods in your life? Are you chasing riches or prosperity? There is nothing wrong with wanting a comfortable life, but are you placing something else above God? God—and God alone—is worthy of worship.
Lord, teach me how to worship and serve You.

Jesus the Great Gardener

He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.”—John 20:15–16 (NIV)
When Mary Magdalene first saw Jesus, she mistook Him for the gardener. Take a moment and reflect on that. Envision Jesus as a gardener tending to your spirit. What beautiful blooms does He have planned for you in this new year?
Almighty God, I trust You to grow new life, to heal the broken parts of me and make me whole and hopeful.
