Release Your Expectations

My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my hope is from Him.—Psalm 62:5 (NASB)
Life has a way of surprising us with events that catch us off guard or plans that turn out differently than our expectations. When you feel upset or disappointed, turn to Him and trust His goodness. It’s been said that life’s disappointments can become divine appointments—important times that lead us to strengthen our connection with God.
Lord, help me to see Your goodness when I am feeling lost and upset. Lead me to let go of my misguided expectations for Your plans.

Invite Jesus In

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.—Revelati on 3:20 (NIV)
Imagine Jesus knocking on the door of your heart and waiting to be invited inside. Every moment, you have the choice to keep the door open by reading His Word and praying. Welcome Him into your daily life!
Dear God, You are always welcome in my heart.

The Power to Forgive

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.—Colossians 1:13–14 (NIV)
Forgiving others is an ongoing challenge. Perhaps there is someone in your life who pushes your buttons or is difficult to have a relationship with. God asks us to mirror the love He has for each of us, forgiving us as often as needed. Strive to be as generous with your love.
Heavenly Father, help me to let go of anger and resentment and forgive those who have wronged me.

The Privilege of Prayer

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry.—Psalm 34:15 (NIV)
Irish poet Joseph M. Scriven penned the words, “Oh, what peace we often forfeit. Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!” This ultimately became the hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Today recognize the gift your unique relationship with God truly is!
Dear Lord, as I grow closer to You, every aspect of my life bears witness to Your unfailing love.

A Time to Reap

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.—Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
As we enter the harvest season, take a moment to reflect and recognize all your accomplishments! Thank Him for giving you the opportunity to be of service to others. Continue to sow the seeds of kindness and love.
Heavenly Father, I hope that my work here serves Your kingdom.

The Sweet Aroma of Christ

For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.—2 Corinthians 2:15 (ESV)
Does your life reflect the sweet aroma of Christ? When you allow God to direct your path, He fills you with His strength and energy, and you carry the sweet fragrance of Him in your heart. Others will encounter Christ in you and through you!
Merciful God, may my love for You help light the way for others around me.

Pray Impossible Prayers

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”—Matthew 21:21 (NIV)
No situation is ever helpless. God isn’t limited to the laws of the world or confined by the laws of nature. When something seems impossible, this verse is encouraging you to believe that anything is possible, anything can truly happen.
Lord Jesus, I have faith that You can move mountains. I have the faith to pray impossible prayers.

Questions and Answers

“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”—Luke 9:41 (NIV)
In the above verse, Jesus seems displeased with His followers. Despite witnessing miracles, they still had doubts. Yet Jesus continued to heal and answer prayers. When you have doubts, focus on this Scripture and know that even the disciples questioned their faith—and Jesus continued to answer their prayers.
Dear Lord, thank You for understanding the “unbelieving and perverse generation” and for teaching us how to pray in spite of our shortcomings.

Peace of Mind

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.—Romans 10:17 (NIV)
It can be impossible to hear God’s voice when you are listening to your own voice whisper words of discouragement or confusion. When you are unable to quiet your mind, ask the Holy Spirit to help remove the background noise so you can tune into His instructions.
Heavenly Father, silence the chatter in my mind so that I can clearly hear Your Word.

God’s Hidden Treasures

He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”—Isaiah 49:3 (NIV)
Some Christians see the sand dollar as a symbol of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection. In addition to the outer markings, the inside holds five pieces that are shaped like tiny white doves—representing the gospel of peace. God has filled the world with many treasures for us to find. Today, look and take notice of His work.
Heavenly Father, I praise You for the many beautiful ways You convey Your message.

The Best Days Are Ahead

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.—2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)
No doubt about it, aging can be difficult. If you fall into the trap of feeling as if your best days are behind you, remind yourself that you are being renewed day by day. You are extraordinary, today, right now. Priceless in the eyes of God. Embrace your worth!
Lord, help me to age gracefully—to live hopefully, looking forward to the blessings ahead.
