Let Your Suffering Refine Your Spirit

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.—Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)
God doesn’t want you to hide in suffering. When you are feeling burdened, instead of shouldering the load on your own, turn to God. He wants you to turn your pain over to Him. He promises to give you the strength you need.
God, when I need rest and reassurance, fill me with Your peace.

Welcome Fear

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.—Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
When you give in to fear and allow it to hold you back, you lose a piece of yourself. Acting out of fear is never the answer to living a faith-filled life. Instead of avoiding or recoiling, ask God to help you welcome the feeling of fear—knowing that you can move past it with His help.
Lord, because of You I can courageously look forward to tomorrow.

The Sanctuary Within

The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.—Psalm 29:11 (NIV)
Commit your soul to God’s care. Close your eyes and leave the stress of the day in His hands. There is a sanctuary within yourself, a beautiful safe place where you are in the shelter of His love.
Heavenly Father, fortify me with Your peace. Help me rest in Your promise.

Infinite Possibility

For to the snow he says, “Fall on the earth.”—Job 37:6 (ESV)
Every day is a new beginning open to brilliant opportunities. Just as the snow blankets the earth in beauty, God’s greatness goes beyond what He has created. His power is limitless, and your biggest dreams are possible.
Dear Lord, You are miraculously working in me—shaping me with Your love, beauty and wonder.

Share the Good News

For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”—Romans 10:13 (NIV)
In Paul ’s letter to the Romans, he shares the importance of sharing the message of faith. Do you joyously help others on their faith journeys? Ask God to help you lead a life of love and service.
Heavenly Father, I long to bring growth and change to my life and the lives of those around me.

Think Good Thoughts

In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable.—Philippians 4:8 (GNT)
Norman Vincent Peale echoed the sentiment in the above Scripture when he wrote “We are either destroyed or made whole by the kind of thoughts we think.” What type of thoughts are you entertaining? The next time you feel overcome with worry or dark thinking, turn to God and bring heavenly light into your life!
Lord, I have the power to control what I think about, and You have the power to turn my darkness into light.

A Grateful Start

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.—1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV)
In this verse , “thanks” is translated from the Greek word eucharisteo, meaning “to be grateful.” As you just ended the year with thankfulness, begin with gratitude, knowing that as the future unfolds, God’s glorious presence is with you.
Lord, my grateful heart is filled with Your light, which will comfort and guide me through the bright days ahead.

It Is Not About You

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”—John 6:28–29 (ESV)
This verse is a reminder that your life’s work is not about what you want to accomplish. The true goal of your life is about God and centering your thoughts, focus and actions on serving Him.
Lord, what can I do for You today?

God’s Crooked Lines

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.—Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
There is a saying that “God writes straight with crooked lines.” His plan is not always predictable. Unexpected twists and turns can throw you off balance unless you are rooted in faith and ready to take on new experiences.
My Loving God, I am learning to appreciate Your unexpected directions, which lead me to grow in ways I never imagined.

Right Now in This Moment

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.—Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
When you feel worried about the future, focus on the now. Pray and ask God what He wants you to do, right now, right at this moment. Know that God is with you and your faith will see you through.
Lord, when I get off track and worry about tomorrow, lead me back to the here and now, and to the wisdom of Your Word.
