Myrl Aycock’s Sand Tarts

Here’s an easy holiday cookie recipe that the whole family will enjoy.

Cookie recipes: Sand Tarts

Myrl was my mother’s best friend and like an aunt to my sister and me. We only shared these cookies with a few special people—now we’re sharing the recipe with you so you can share them with your special people!

Ingredients

2 sticks butter, softened

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 ¼ cups flour (sifted)

5 tablespoons powdered sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

Preparation

1. Cream butter, add vanilla and stir.

2. Sift flour and powdered sugar together and add to mixture, then add pecans. After mixing all ingredients together, form into long rolls, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

3. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

4. Slice into thin cookies and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.

5. Roll cookies in additional powdered sugar and cool. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
