Mom, you have to believe God!” my daughter Kendall told me emphatically one evening. The results from a biopsy showed my ovarian cancer had spread to my lungs, confirming my Stage 4 status. I felt discouraged, and the lies had started seeping into my soul: Cancer always wins. God doesn’t hear your prayers.
I knew these were lies from the enemy of my faith. But they grew bigger than God’s promises as I allowed them to echo through my mind.
A few days later, Kendall walked in and plunked a wrapped package down on the kitchen counter. “To help you remember to believe God,” she said.
Inside was a wooden block with letters spelling out BELIEVE.
I placed it on a windowsill above the sink and was stunned to see, for the first time, that the word LIE is tucked right there in the middle of the word BE-LIE-VE.
What a powerful reminder that I can focus on the LIE…or step back and BELIEVE God’s truth, which is so much bigger: the truth that God knows our suffering and walks with us and will meet all our needs.
