“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.” Genesis 8:1 (NIV)
Noah was stuck in that ark for a hundred and fifty days. That is a really long time to live in a floating barn.
He probably felt pretty neglected by God after a while. After all, the entire earth was covered with water, and he and his family were the only human beings left, drifting in a ship on a vast ocean. He might have felt God had forgotten all about him.
Are you feeling like God might have forgotten you too? Maybe you’re going through some really rough things emotionally. Maybe you’re contending with difficult people. Maybe you’re under a lot of pressure from work or other people in your life. There’s no end in sight, and you feel like God has left you hung out to dry.
But Jesus doesn’t forget us. He has very specific timing that we may not understand. He has a very good reason for doing things when He does them.
After hearing Lazarus was sick, Jesus deliberately waited two days before heading toward Bethany. By the time He got there, Lazarus had been buried for four days. Both Mary and Martha said to Him, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died.” They didn’t understand His timing. They must have been able to calculate, from the timing of their message, that He hadn’t come right away. Imagine their amazement when He raised Lazarus from the dead.
Jesus has not forgotten you. Trust in His timing—it might be something you need to learn or work through, it might be to give someone else enough time, or it might be to show the enormity of His power.
Faith step: You can trust that His timing will always be for your good. Cling to your trust in Jesus. You are not forgotten.
