Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

Life is not always easy. Illnesses, from cancer to diabetes to brutal bouts of the flu, as well as emotional and spiritual ailments affect the quality of our life and, at times, can even shake our faith. Of course, multiple Bible scriptures teach us that the Lord has promised us healing through Jesus Christ. In fact, healing is at the very heart of the ministry of Jesus. As the Psalmist wrote: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Guideposts Executive Editor Rick Hamlin has personally experienced the healing power of prayer. “A couple of years ago I landed in the hospital ICU with a mysterious ailment that had the doctors—and me—completely mystified,” he says. “That first day not only did I feel rotten physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. I couldn’t even pray.”

Hamlin, who outlines his health crisis in his book Prayer Works, admits that he temporarily lost his faith. “Faced with my own death, I questioned whether prayer would really make a difference,” he says. The ultimate answer? Yes! “At some point, there came this feeling, this certainty, that others were praying for me. That was enough. The doctors could never diagnose my illness, but I finally got out of that hospital. I was healed, thanks to good medical care. And prayer.”

These days, Hamlin lives by the motto that big problems require big prayers. He recalls how his friend, author and healing pastor Nigel Mumford, once told him: “So often in our prayers we don’t think big enough, dream big enough or ask big enough. God wants more for us than we often imagine.”
