Last week, at the Guideposts Writer’s Workshop in Rye, NY, my fellow editor and bud Danielle Eliska Lyle experienced an unexpected moment of wonder.
I was there when this little miracle happened and, afterwards, we just looked at each other stunned. There was no doubt God was sending Danielle a very clear message. Here’s what happened…
It was the very last day of the workshop and we were at the breakfast table with some of the other editors, laughing and chatting away about what we’d learned over the course of a week.
The night before, Catherine Madera–a frequent Guideposts contributor–had talked to the workshop attendees about her inspiring writing career. At breakfast, Danielle had been telling me about her own dreams as a writer.
“Good morning, Diana and Danielle!” someone said, approaching our table. It was Mark Madera, Catherine’s husband.
He hadn’t met Danielle yet, and I assumed he was just going to introduce himself. Instead, he knelt down by our table and stared Danielle straight in the eye. I looked on, bewildered.
“It was placed on my heart to tell you that whatever you’re passionate about, don’t hold back,” he told Danielle. “Whatever it is that fires you, don’t hold back.”
She was so taken aback that all she could do was nod. Before either of us could question him further, he got up and left our table. Just like that.
Thinking back on it, I’m still blown away. The whole thing was completely surreal. Danielle barely knew the Maderas–in fact, she hadn’t uttered more than two words to either Mark or Catherine before this encounter.
And yet, it was like he was speaking straight to her soul on behalf of a greater power. Confirming what God had put in her spirit and letting her know she was on the right path.
