Christmas in the Heart

Lord, may we discover the inner joy of Christmas.

Have a Christmas of the heart!
Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

Christmas Day is one of the most wonderful days of the year for many. It also can be one of the most disappointing. Why? Many of us have unrealistic expectations for the holiday.

Some people believe they will find happiness when they get what they want. Tangible gifts can make us happy but can’t fill our void.

Have a Christmas of the heart! We dream of the “White Christmas” filled with the magic that only Hollywood can create. Life has its wonders, but events can’t fill us with peace.

We romanticize being in front of the fireplace or around the piano with our significant other singing Christmas carols. But if there is no love, we remain empty.

The good news is that Christmas can be a wonderful day filled with great joy.

The words spoken on that clear night by the angel to the shepherds staying in the field guarding their flocks ring louder today than ever, “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior… has been born today.”

Joy comes to those who receive the good news of salvation. Real deep joy fills us when we know and experience God’s love and forgiveness.

The present of Christ the Child in our being springs forth joy from the depth of our soul and we sing as Mary did, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!”

Christmas day takes on a whole new meaning when we have joy in our heart. We don’t wait or seek a perfect Christmas…a perfect moment to be happy. Our inner joy makes us happy.

We appreciate the giver of the gift more than the gift. We value more the time with the family than the glitter and lights that surround us. As W.T. Ellis said, “It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.”

Prayer: Lord, may we discover the inner joy of Christmas.
