Letting God Take Over

Guideposts blogger Pablo Diaz on the importance of letting God take control of your life.

How to let God take control of your life.
Prayer is a powerful force for good. At Guideposts, we believe in the strength of prayer to bring comfort, hope, and healing. Your generous donation today will help us continue to share the power of prayer with those in need. Together, through prayer and support, we can make a difference.

Who we are today is the result of the choices made yesterday. Every choice we make has consequence and impacts the paths we take. Even when we have no external control, we can control how we respond to a situation.

But what about letting go and letting God handle our matters? It is a choice we have to make every time we pray. Yet it is very difficult. We pray to God, but too often we worry about the results instead of trusting Him, and we take things into our own hands.

For example, we pray that God will guide the choices of young adults when making decisions about college, their career and a life mate. But instead of sitting back and letting God guide them, we tend to interfere. As my colleague Rick Hamlin, Senior Editor of Guideposts magazine, said, “God has better plans for our children than we could ever plan.”

Ask the OurPrayer team to pray for you!

Worrying, controlling and stressing over the outcome of our prayers consume more energy than letting go and trusting God. It is one of the lessons that I continue to learn. It’s not my way, but God’s way.

The prophet Isaiah’s words to the people of God ring as true today as they did back then, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Letting go is a daily practice. What keeps you from letting go and letting God take over? Please share with us.

Lord, teach and help me to trust that Your thoughts, plans and ways are best for me and others.
