El Cristo Roto (The Broken Christ) is built on an island in Mexico and only accessible by boat.  A plaque in Spanish (translated below) mounted on the pedestal helps to explain its unusual design.

“Let me be broken …
I want you to see me broken,
Remember your many brethren,
Who are like me: broken, crushed,
Poor, oppressed, sick, handicapped …
Without arms, because they have no chances
Or means of work; Without feet because they
They have blocked the streets;
Without a cross, because they have been given the dignity,
The honor and the prestige.
You’ve forgotten everything and turned your back on them,
Although they are like me …
A broken Christ. “
