Pray the Psalms: Psalm 6

Watch as Rick Hamlin takes you through Psalm 6.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Psalm 6. Sometimes I don’t always sleep well at night, and I think the Psalms are helpful for times like that. There’s a word here in this song that I really love, and it’s the word mercy. Have mercy upon me, Lord. Have mercy upon me. It’s a phrase I use when I can’t sleep.

I’m reminded when I was a kid. And when I couldn’t sleep my dad would come in and he’d rub my back. And he’d tell me to visualize a lake, and I would be just lying on a mat on the lake. And then I’d close my eyes, and he’d say just think blackness, think deep blue, think of the cool breeze on the lake. You’ll fall asleep.

You know, saying to the Lord, have mercy upon me, Lord– it’s almost like I’m taken back to my dad rubbing my back, falling asleep. All will be well. Have mercy upon me, oh Lord. Have mercy upon me, oh Lord. And then I close my eyes.
