We welcomed a new editor into the Guideposts offices recenty, Diana Aydin. I’ve hardly gotten to know her, but Diana had a quick angel story to tell me right away.
When she was in middle school, she sat down to take a science exam. “My worst subject!” she said. She was nervous she would fail. Then, just as she put pencil to paper to answer the first question, something fell onto her desk with a “light thud.” Curious choice of words, I thought, but surely she’d chosen them carefully. Isn’t that what editors do, after all?
“It was a pin, a tiny gold guardian angel pin,” Diana explained. She immediately looked overhead—clear up to the ceiling. “The pin fell as if it had come from above. Instantly I knew everything would be OK.” Diana relaxed and did just fine on that exam.
Personally I’m glad the experience didn’t push her into the sciences. “A light thud”? That’s exactly the sound one of those pins makes when you drop it on a desk. I know. I just tried it. I look forward to getting to know my new colleague better.
